AUTHOR: Phy DATE: 10/05/2003 02:09:00 PM ----- BODY: I realize it's been awhile since I posted something new. I'm working through some mundane stuff in RealLifeā„¢, like the Men's Retreat last weekend, a new renter, and some frankly brilliant reading (I know some don't care for David Brin, personally, and that's too bad - he's a Top Tier writer).

In that spirit, here's something I came across this afternoon from the Deep Magic Christian fantasy forums:
I read somewhere that writers only spend about 15% of their time actually writing. The other 85% of the time is spent playing solitaire on the computer, reading books, staring at blank computer screens and making up names for characters in upcoming books. To the layman, this looks like goofing off. But to the trained writer, this is a period in which ideas are fermenting. The ideas roil in the subconcious, slowly morphing into story lines. While the brewing is going on, it's best not to look and so the writer distracts the concious mind with "research." --------
